Being and making disciples of Jesus Christ at UNC Charlotte

WHO WE ARE

IMG_5034.JPG

We are a growing  community  with a clear  purpose

Niner Christian Life -- known around campus as NCL -- began at UNC Charlotte in the summer of 2013 with a small team from our parent church in Raleigh. We were inspired by Jesus' words in Acts 1:8, where He said his followers should pursue people locally, regionally and globally with the intent of helping others discover Him.

We are not the biggest or the flashiest, but we do have a very clear aim -- to be devoted followers of Jesus Christ who help others be devoted to Him as well. With His help, we are developing a network of Bible-based learning communities that empower people to be spiritually, emotionally and relationally healthy, ready to serve others.

Keep track of all the latest events happening at NCL here. New events and updates posted on a regular basis.

Fellowship SATURDAY: NCL Christmas Party!

December 3

Come ring in the Christmas season with a special Fellowship Friday -- on Saturday! We'll have a ton of food and celebrate what Jesus has done in our lives this fall semester. Feel free to invite a friend or two! 6 p.m. SATURDAY off campus at the home of Keegan & Amy Rice. Contact Jordan or Shannon for a ride.

Mission Monday

December 5

In 2 Corinthians 5, we're called ambassadors for Christ. As His ambassadors, we've been tasked with a mission to tell people all around us that God wants a relationship with them. Join us Monday nights as we share this amazing truth on campus! Meet at 6:30 p.m. at the front entrance of the Student Union.

Our End-of-Year Schedule

December 8-31

Because we are a church, NCL meets year-round, with a few occasional exceptions due to holidays. We invite you to join us for any or all of these events as we near the end of 2022!

Sunday Morning Worship

We WILL be meeting for worship on the following dates: 12/4, 12/11, 12/18

We will not meet on Sunday, Dec. 25 (Christmas Day) or Sunday, Jan. 1 (New Year's Day).

Fellowship Friday

In addition to the NCL Christmas Party (see above), our end-of-week fellowship times will be on: 12/9 & 12/16.

GROW

WITH US

Wherever you are at in your relationship with God, we have a place for you to connect and grow in community.

Want to discover more about Jesus?

If you're not quite sure what to make of God and the Bible but are interested in learning more, we'd love to talk with you! Drop us a line (bottom of page) or talk with someone you've met at NCL about learning more about Jesus -- who He is and what He taught.

Discovery Churches

What exactly is church, anyway, and how should we be involved in it? These groups are for Christians who want to learn how to seek after God, in community. We'll grow in our biblical understanding and in our practice of what God says we're to do.

Tuesdays & Wednesdays: 7:30 p.m. at SoVi Commons lounge

Note: Our groups will kick off the week of Aug. 20-27 with dinner at the SoVi dining hall, then move to their regular locations the following week.

Area Churches

Our area churches meet throughout the week, both on-campus and in the surrounding community. These groups are for Christians who desire to be devoted to helping each other live out all aspects of their relationship with God, in community, on an ongoing basis.

Tuesdays: 6:30 p.m. at Erik & Jennifer Murphy's
Wednesdays: 7:30 p.m. at Daryn & Lauren Williams'

JORDAN COOKE

God used some bold and caring friends in college to help grab Jordan's attention and his heart during his freshman year at N.C. State. Hearing the gospel changed his life! Jordan has been in full-time vocational ministry since 2009 and has been NCL's only full-time staff member since 2018.

Keegan.png

KEEGAN RICE

God grabbed hold of Keegan in high school, but it wasn't until college that he started being obedient to God's commands. He is a nerd who loves reading, ultimate frisbee and video games. Keegan is married to Amy and has three beautiful girls: Aria, Riley and Joy!

STAFF & KEY LEADERS

Shannon.jpg

SHANNON OVERBEY

PART-TIME STAFF

Shannon doubted God's love and her own salvation until encountering him afresh in college. God has since led her to NCL, where she serves as a bi-vocational ministry associate. Shannon also writes her own stories, kayaks any body of water large enough to hold a boat, and (somewhat intentionally) loses things at friends' houses. She is married to her partner-in-crime, Joe. :)

Berk.png

BERK WILSON

PASTOR @ GRACE COMMUNITY CHURCH (RALEIGH, NC)

While in school at Clemson University, Berk's heart was gripped by a passionate love for Jesus and a desire to see the nations reached for the gospel. Berk has been instrumental in discipling all three of NCL's pastors. He and his wife, Barbara, have raised six boys and currently live in Cary, NC.

SILAS STARLING

NCL STUDENT VICE PRESIDENT

Fun fact about Silas: he is in the Top 100 in the world at solving Rubik's cubes and holds several standing records. He's unmistakably a country boy and also an avid NASCAR fan. Silas is also studying engineering at UNCC. He comes from Salisbury, NC.

WHAT WE BELIEVE

OUR STATEMENT OF FAITH

THE SCRIPTURE

The sole basis of our beliefs is the Bible, the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments. It was uniquely, verbally, and fully inspired by the Holy Spirit and was written without error in the original manuscripts. It is the supreme and final authority in faith and life in every age.
